Inspired by the Inside Out Project created by JR in 2011, this installation echoes the conviction of artist JR, “Can Art Change the World?”, as well as the one of Art for Action foundation.
One hundred migrants photographed from behind express the strength of their dreams upon arriving in Europe through their movement toward the horizon. For this project, photographer Sarah Makharine went to meet them in Paris, Munich, Como, and Milan. These images tell the story of a departure filled with hope and plans for the future, while reminding us of what they are giving up by leaving their country.
Presented during the Mostra and the Biennale, the installation is part of the After Migration program run by Art for Action, in collaboration with The Human Safety Net. It opens up conversation, builds bridges, and challenges decision-makers and citizens on human rights, particularly on issues related to migration, which are too often
dehumanized.
